Mentioned here is a list of numbers anyone and everyone travelling to Brazil would find helpful. One should be aware that the telephone numbering plan in Brazil consists of a 2 digit area code followed but an 8 digit local phone number.

Public payphones use disposable prepaid cards, which come with 20, 40, 60 or 75 credits. Cards can be bought from many of the small shops and there is no shortage of phone booths either.

Public Utility Services all over Brazil use a 3 digit telephone number beginning with 1. All cities use the emergency numbers. The most important of these numbers are:

190 (Military Police) is the widely used number for emergencies. 192 (Ambulance), 193 (Firefighters) and 199 (Civil Defense) are also commonly known by the citizens. The 190 emergency numbers would nevertheless transfer the call to the respective service based on the nature of emergency.
